Neck and low back pain are common occurrences in the general population.

The spine is one of the human body's most complex structures. If you're having pain in your back or neck, trust Sarasota Orthopedic Associates. Our team of board-certified, fellowship-trained physicians has the expertise to evaluate and address your spinal condition.

Diagnosing Spine Problems

The cervical, thoracic, and lumbar sections of your spine are made up of many bones, joints, ligaments, nerves, tendons, and cartilage, any of which could become injured or inflamed. In fact, an estimated 80 percent of Americans report experiencing back or neck pain at some point in their lives. This can stem from many causes, such as a slipped or herniated disc, degenerative disc disease, erosion of the sacroiliac joint, spinal stenosis, pinched nerve, accident, or an injury. Regardless of the cause of the pain, treatment typically starts with conservative measures, such as physical therapy and pain medication.

Our Surgical Services

Depending on the cause of your pain, surgery may be required if more conservative measures to resolve the problem and control the symptoms are ineffective. Some conditions can be treated using minimally invasive spine surgery, while others require traditional open surgery. Common spine procedures include removal of a damaged disc, relieving pressure on a compressed nerve, fusing two vertebrae, and installing supporting devices such as plates, bone screws, and rods. We also provide post-surgery physical and occupational therapy services on-site.

Fortunately, most cases of back and neck pain can be resolved without surgical treatment. When it comes to the treatment of spine disorders, Sarasota Orthopedic Associates offers a comprehensive approach to spine assessment and treatment for our patients. Call (941) 951-2663 to schedule a same-day appointment at one of our convenient locations in the Sarasota area.
